Pipe Fittings

Simply put pipe fittings are used to connect plumbing pipes. The fittings are threaded and come in a variety of shapes to be able to connect any plumbing pipes. For example, you can find pipe fittings are that shaped like tees, couplings, elbows, and reducers. Think about plumbing your entire home. Each pipe would have to be fitted together in different areas. For example, some pipes may branch away to supply water to different areas of your home, such as the kitchen and bathroom. Types of Pipe Fittings

There are different types of pipe fittings that are used. One type is an adapter pipe fitting. This type of fitting is used when there are different types of plumbing pipes in the home or business. For example, these fittings can be used to connect copper piping to PVC piping. The adapter used can be either female or male on each end. If the adapter pipe fitting has no threads, the plumber has to solder or weld the pipes in place. Another type of pipe fitting is called a coupler. This type is used to connect piping that is the same size and the same type. You can also use coupler pipe fittings to repair pipes that are leaking or broken.

The compression fitting connects between two pipes via rubber seals or gaskets on both sides to prevent leaking. A slip coupling includes two pipes, one of which slides out of the other pipe to a certain length to repair a specific length of the damaged pipe.

Another type of pipe fitting is called barb fittings. This type connects pipes and hoses together. Male is at one end of the barb while the other end of the bar is a barbed tube. The tube is either tapered or ridged. Barbs also have clamps on the end to secure the popes together. If the barbs are used on cold water pipes they are made of plastic. Brass is used if the pipes carry hot water.
